Memorable Moment: BIOrhythm
07 Dec 2014

By Amanda Jayne (Web correspondent)

A television special produced by MTV in January, 1999 was the program called BIOrhythm: Jim Carrey. A journey of Jim Carrey's life from Child to Superstar. Jim Carrey Online was involved in the program and assisted the MTV staff. It included help with research, as well as compiling and sending various materials to them. At the end of the biography Jim Carrey Online has got some screen credit for the assistance with the project.

The biography opens with a reminder to us that Jim wrote himself a cheque for $10 million dollars post dated for Thanksgiving 1995.

We then have some fantastic clips of Jim's amazing catalogue of work which leads into some personal video footage and photographs of his late Father Percy, who believed in and inspired Jim so much and a look at his beautiful (ha we now know where the looks come from) late Mother Kathleen, whose personal journey in life rounded Jim into being a complexity of ego and insecurity and a person with many conflicting sides that we as fans love and admire.

We then have some more fantastic clips from Jim's work and some adorable cute pictures of him as a kid, there is also a reconstruction about how Jim was teased at school and proof of how smart he was then, by grasping the fact you can turn any negative into a positive and became the rogue class clown that gave him his first taste of adoration.

The next segment covers some fab personal family photographs of Jim and his family in the 70's at a time when they became homeless and lived in a camper van. This desperation urges Jim on to pursue his dreams of being an Entertainer, realising not even the safe route in life can protect you from life's uncertainties. Jim Carrey always says "if you aint been desperate in life you aint interesting" he's correct and he's the poster boy for that and one of the reasons he's such an unbelievable performer and individual.

Jim Carrey

A great treat in the next bit of the video, clips from some of Jim's early stand up performances on the club circuit in Canada and the USA and a piece from an interview of a very young Jim that is a must see, considering what we as fans now understand about Jim Carrey. He speaks of what it would be like to be so famous that you cannot walk down the street anymore, the camera then stays on Jim's face for a few seconds while he is quietly analysing that thought in his head, a very telling bit of film.

As the first video comes to an end it covers Jim's life from giving up stand up and moving into television, having to deal with tragedy in his life and dealing with a career going wrong, the reason why he now wakes up and appreciates all he has in life. The 2nd video opens with Jim realising he has to change his act and once again his genius thought process kicks in and works out you have to have an edge, be experimental, not to be over-liked, a bit of a dark wit and have fantastic comic observation skills to make it, all of which he has or knows how to develop. Leading on to some fantastic funny clips from "In Living Color".

You then come to the most significant years in Jim Carrey's life, 1993 and 1994, the development and release of the films that cemented Jim Carrey as a comic genius with great clips from Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and the Glorious Truman Burbank but mixed with the sad death of Jim's father, a man that had so much influence on him and Jim telling us what an inspiration he was to him.

We then have some beautiful music playing while we are reminded that Jim put that cheque for $10 million dollars in his father's pocket at his funeral and then some beautiful clips from some of his brilliant movies and the superstar he became... ENJOY
