"Dumb and Dumberer" WARNING
13 Jan 2003

Okay. Time to address this issue since JCO keeps getting Emails about it, and the Forum is hot with the topic. The upcoming PREQUEL to the original and classic "Dumb and Dumber," which is called "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd."

If you've seen the film "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" then you've seen the trailer for this film. It shows the title of the film, the definitions of "dumb," "dumber" and "dumberer," and gives some Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels VOICE OVERS from the original film of them laughing it up. There are NO scenes from the new film itself shown.

I asked myself why? Then I came home and did some digging. (Here comes the bad news folks - brace yourself.) JIM CARREY and JEFF DANIELS are NO WHERE NEAR THIS FLICK. They don't even have cameos. Also, the great writers/directors of the original film, THE FARRELLY BROS., are no where near the film.

Personally, I don't plan on seeing this film. I don't want to ruin my happy memory of the original. The ONLY way I'll see this thing is if I get inundated with Email requests and Forum requests of me taking the plunge and sacrificing my money and level of intelligence. (I only mention this because I don't want you Carreyholics or Jim Carrey-in-"Dumb and Dumber"-lovers to have to suffer.)

Now, I'm not saying that I "forbid" you from seeing this movie. I'm just saying that if your curiosity is killing you, and you absolutely NEED to go to the thing, go into it with the foreknowledge that it's going to be A LOT different than the first. I think New Line's marketing strategy is misleading. Why did they use Jim and Jeff's voices when they're not in the film? They should be forthright in coming clean about the movie. I mean, how come they're not? To me it seems that they want to exploit the popularity of the original, using a "Star Wars" prequel tactic that I have a hunch won't work. The actors chosen to portray Lloyd and Harry have A LOT to live up to (I wish them my best). The hub-bub around the film's got my interest, but not enough to take it to the bank - or the theatre.
