Yes, and dangit....this is going to be a long post.
In Maryland, I lived four miles from my parents' home. One winter morning I was driving into work and it was super slick. In fact, when I was approaching a stoplight, I hit my brakes SLIGHTLY and my car just started spinning. I ended up next to a house, and I backed into their driveway, while I thought about whether or not I wanted to try to make it through and into work. The decision was made FOR me when two cars did the SAME thing mine had done and crashed into each other. IT was minor because seriously, you weren't going above 35 miles an hour on that road.
Well the salt trucks came and eventually I got into work. I was maybe 20 minutes late.
I called my Dad, who hadn't left for work yet and I said, "Be REALLY REALLY careful because there is black ice and I spun out."
His response: "Some people don't know how to drive in bad weather."
I said, "Dad, I was going 35 MPH."
HE said, "Still if you had been in a wreck the cop would've cited you for driving too fast for conditions...."
So I said, "Just be careful Dad."
On his way into work he totaled the car he was driving.
HE spun out and ended up hitting a tree with the back end of his car.
I never said, "I told you so." I knew I didn't have to and that was really the first time I sat back and had a long think and a realization about my dad's mortality...and how fragile life is.
He passed away 2 years later at the age of 62.

When i was student teacher i was chatting to one of my fellow students who used to be a policewoman, over breakfast in the student halls.............
For some weird reason we got onto the subject of fatal accidents and she said the worst were train ones............
When people are hit by a train, it's just a bucket and shovel job.......
Well, that very afternoon i saw a woman being hit and killed by a train.......
that was pretty bad and when the police arrived they
were clutching shovels and bin-bags.
And i had to give evidence in court etc afterwards..........
But It was kinda spooky i've always asked myself who actually instigated the conversation over breakfast............i suspect i may have guided it's direction................which gives me the creeping feeling that somehow i pre-empted the accident.................
i'll never know.................but it makes me wonder.............
as long as i don't start seeing bloody dead people!!............lol
