fluffy wrote:.........i am not being drawn into this...........but you seem to think you are taking a moral high ground..........don't you have freedom of speech in the constitution??
fluffy
Oh yes, freedom of speech is a neccesity. High moral ground is not a necessity though  It's just that your statement made me wonder for a moment there....
fluffy wrote:i mean 'love' in the broadest sense of the word..........not just love for family, friends and partners etc..........but a love and respect for creation and life........and that expands to respect and compassion for fellow human beings.........

is it ok if i go back to our original topic? (just gotta beat that horse some more  )

quirky you said: But the force isn't religion...it's fanatics who politicize their narrow view of things.

that goes back to what i've been saying all along with the addition of the word "organized" before religion. i personally believe that it's not just fanatics that politicize their narrow views (i mean look who our president is again) unfortunately we have a lot of fanatics or near-fanatics who LEAD the literal sheep in the flock of the congregations into believing and backing any of the views that "might" just might have been backed by jesus in their minds. in the ADD world we live in, the sheep become quickly desensitized with "the far right" and suddenly everything sounds "logical" (hence the moral majority) certainly he's very educated and knows what he's talking about - i don't need to spend MY precious time finding out if it's true.......YIKES!!!

it's a fine line...blind faith is what belief is based on but unfortunately there are a lot of believers that think that they do not have to "think" anymore once they "believe" (that goes for all organized religion - not just christianity) so many churches make you feel that if you question anything or seek knowledge of other cultures/beliefs, that you are "going down the wrong path". my question to them is "how do you know it's wrong if you don't explore it?" didn't jesus spent time with non-jews, criminals, lepers and women, exploring the "unknown"? it's so sad that organized religion is so closed minded but that in itself is how you keep a close reign on your flock. i've come full circle. i have no more to say...whew (that soap box sure is big)

This is interesting :)

TWENTY TRUTHS TO REMEMBER

1. Faith is the ability to not panic.

2. If you worry, you didn't pray. If you pray, don't worry.

3. As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home every day.

4. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

5. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.

6. Do the math. Count your blessings.

7. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.

8. Dear God: I have a problem. It's me.

9. Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.

10. Laugh every day, it's like inner jogging.

11. The most important things in your home are the people.

12. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

13. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open.

14. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.

15. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

16. We do not remember days, but moments. Life moves too fast, so enjoy your precious moments.

17. Nothing is real to you until you experience it, otherwise it's just hearsay.

18. It's all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.

19. Surviving and living your life successfully requires courage. The goals and dreams you're seeking require courage and risk-taking. Learn from the turtle -- it only makes progress when it sticks out its neck.

20. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Thanks for that Jimliker.

My favourite line was #15.
15. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.
It's like that saying my grandmother used to say in Italian -- you can have all the money in the world -- but you can't take it with you!

They say that at Christian funeral services too. Words to that effect. Wise words indeed.

I love number 4: Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.
So true in life.

You know they should have made a Bendy Jim doll. Like the old Stretch Armstrong ones where you pull the arms and legs. I'd have bought one.
For my own private use.
